Midland, Texas’ Development Authority thought that investing in a spaceport would be a great idea. An up-and-coming space company named XCOR wanted to relocate from California. It would only take millions of Economic Development dollars and a spaceport license from the FAA.

In the Summer of 2016, Camden County officials were touting Firefly Space Systems of as a potential launch company for Spaceport Camden. As recently as June 2016 Firefly had announced that it was the recipient of more than $19 million in new funding. In October 2016, Firefly furloughed all employees as it ran out of cash.
