Midland Spaceport Loses XCOR, Million$
The following is a true spaceport story. Midland, Texas’ Development Authority thought that investing in a spaceport would be a great idea. An up-and-coming space company named XCOR wanted to relocate from California. It would only take millions of Economic Development dollars and a spaceport license from the FAA. FIREFLY Folds: All lose jobs
In the Summer of 2016, Camden County officials were touting Firefly Space Systems of as a potential launch company for Spaceport Camden. As recently as June 2016 Firefly had announced that it was the recipient of more than $19 million in new funding. In October 2016, Firefly furloughed all employees as it ran out of cash. As with XCOR, Spaceport Camden will be dependent on the unfounded success of companies like Firefly that are high risk, speculative and are greatly hyped. F
